Back Head (Gas Chamber) Adjustment

To maintain steady performance, check your back head pressure every 2 weeks.

1. Check: Connect the 3-way valve, ensure the bleed valve is closed, and press the switch to read the pressure.

2. Refill: Connect to the N2 cylinder. Use the "3-Charge & 3-Discharge" principle—fill and release a small amount 3 times to purge air and ensure 100% Nitrogen Purity.

3. Accuracy: Refer to your model's manual for specific PSI/Bar settings.



Accumulator Pressure Management

The accumulator protects your system from hydraulic shocks. Check this monthly.

1. Standard Pressure: Usually 55-60 Bar (at room temperature).

Q1: Why is the N2 pressure different for the back head and the accumulator?

Technician's Answer: They serve different purposes. The Back Head pressure acts as a "gas spring" that drives the piston down for impact. The Accumulator pressure (usually 55-60 Bar) acts as a "cushion" to absorb hydraulic spikes and protect your excavator's pump. Using the SLYM Precision Gauge ensures you don't confuse the two.


Q2: Can I use compressed air instead of Nitrogen?

Technician's Answer: Absolutely not. Compressed air contains oxygen and moisture. Oxygen can cause an internal explosion when mixed with hydraulic oil under high pressure, and moisture will cause the internal cylinder and piston to rust. Always use 99.9% pure Nitrogen (N2).


Q3: My gauge shows a reading, but the breaker still has no power. Why?

Technician's Answer: If your N2 pressure is correct but the hit is weak, check the Chisel-to-Bushing gap. If the gap is over 5mm, the energy is being lost through vibration. Also, check your hydraulic oil temperature—if the oil is overheating, the breaker will lose efficiency regardless of gas pressure.


Q4: How do I know if the internal diaphragm in my accumulator is broken?

Technician's Answer: If you refill the accumulator to 60 Bar and the pressure drops to zero almost immediately, or if you see hydraulic oil leaking out of the N2 charging valve, the diaphragm is likely ruptured. You should order a SLYM Replacement Diaphragm along with this charging kit.


Q5: Why does SLYM recommend the "3-Charge & 3-Discharge" method?

Technician's Answer: When you connect a hose, a small amount of air enters the line. By filling and releasing a small amount of gas three times, you "flush" out the atmospheric air, ensuring that only pure nitrogen remains in the chamber. This prevents internal oxidation and ensures consistent striking force.
