Hydraulic Breaker Accumulator Care & N2 Guide

The hydraulic accumulator acts as a dual-purpose kinetic regulator: it buffers fluid pressure peaks during piston reversal and releases compressed energy to maximize striking force.

Common Field Failures & Symptoms

  • Diaphragm Rupture & Hose Jumping: Continuous flex-fatigue or high oil heat (>80℃) tears the rubber membrane. Hydraulic fluid fills the gas chamber, causing violent hose shaking and pump cavitation.

  • N₂ Pressure Loss: Leaking charging valves allow gas to escape, resulting in weak impact force and rapid oil overheating.

  • Over-Charged N₂ Pressure: Excessive pressure pins the diaphragm down, blocking fluid entry and causing piston binding or refusal to strike.

Key Servicing Protocols

  • Charge ONLY Pure Nitrogen (N₂ ≥ 99.5%): Never fill accumulators with compressed air or oxygen. Oxygen mixed with oil vapor under high pressure creates an explosive hazard.

  • Check Gas Pressure Vertically: Measure gas pressure with a specialized N₂ pressure gauge while the breaker is positioned vertically and disconnected from carrier oil flow.

  • Inspect Seal Caps Daily: Ensure the top N₂ charging valve cap is torqued securely with an intact O-ring to prevent dust ingress and slow gas leakage.

  • Use High-Flex Elastomers: Replace worn membranes with high-density HNBR or Viton® diaphragms engineered for extreme flex-fatigue resistance.
